Annual CCP Black & Gold Gala breaks fundraising records, with more than $870,000 raised for the school and a newly announced FS-sponsored scholarship and internship program for its students.
Philadelphia – June 2, 2022 – The Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) honored FS Investments Chairman and CEO Michael Forman with its Corporate Leadership Award at the annual Black & Gold Gala on June 1. Each year, the Black & Gold Gala recognizes the outstanding service of individuals and organizations in the City of Philadelphia who demonstrate commitment to community growth in education, business, social services, and health. The award was presented to Forman for his work raising more than $870,000 for the college, breaking previous fundraising records. Additionally, at the gala, Forman announced a multi-year scholarship and internship partnership between FS Investments and CCP.
At the gala, Forman commented, “In my view, the mission of the Community College of Philadelphia is so important. We really need to think about how we educate the next generation of Philadelphians and how we prepare them for the 21st century. I’m proud to support the Community College and excited that we exceeded our fundraising goals and set a new level of fundraising, and I look forward to seeing the progress at the College. But this is just the beginning of our support for CCP. I’m really excited to announce tonight that FS and CCP will be partnering together, and over the next five years, we’ll have two students each year engage in paid internships at FS. We’ll introduce them to the business community and the finance world, and then we’ll pay for their tuition for one year at the College.”
FS Investments’ scholarship and internship program will initially sponsor two students in each of the next five years. The program will include a paid internship with FS, which will expose the students to dynamic, real-world learning opportunities. The program also includes a full year of tuition for each of the students to help alleviate the financial burden of education and allow them to fully focus on academic and professional success.
This partnership with CCP is the latest of many opportunities FS Investments has supported for Philadelphia’s students. FS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of FS Investments, founded Philadelphia Financial Scholars in 2016 to offer personal finance and entrepreneurship education to high school students, as well as financial empowerment sessions focused on parents, teachers and other adults in the school communities. In the 2022-23 school year, Philadelphia Financial Scholars aims to serve 20 schools and over 1,000 students. Additionally, FS is currently piloting a summer internship program for high school students together with ENON Tabernacle Baptist Church to expose students to career opportunities in the financial services industry and business world from a young age. Finally, FS is partnering with Steppingstone Scholars on its Inveniam Equity Internship Program, which addresses the lack of opportunity in financial services for Black college students.
