Stephen Sypherd serves as Managing Director and General Counsel at FS Investments and its investment adviser affiliates. In this role, he is responsible for legal and related compliance matters across FS Investments entities and investment funds. He also serves as an officer of the firm’s sponsored investment funds.

Prior to joining FS Investments, Mr. Sypherd served as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he practiced corporate and securities law. While at Skadden, he represented multinational public and private companies in a wide variety of matters including debt and equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate and compliance matters.

Mr. Sypherd is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Arts, where he serves as the chair of the audit committee and on the executive and governance committees. Mr. Sypherd is also a steering committee member of the Philadelphia Fund Alliance, a charitable organization formed by members of the asset management industry in Philadelphia.

Mr. Sypherd received his BA cum laude in Economics from Villanova University, where he currently serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Council, and his JD cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an executive editor of The Georgetown Law Journal. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Villanova University School of Law.
