PHILADELPHIA – September 30, 2022 – As part of the Cradles to Crayons program, over a dozen FS volunteers recently spent their Friday afternoon assisting in the Giving Factory – inspecting, cleaning, sorting and packaging close to 200 pairs of donated shoes that will eventually find the feet of a child living in poverty in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
“Cradles to Crayons’ goal is that every donated item feels like something of quality. Our group took that to heart and scrubbed shoes and sneakers with toothbrushes and wipes to make them feel as new as possible. We wanted the shoes to be something any child would feel proud to wear.”
– Lauren Dougherty, Executive Director, Design & User Experience
Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit organization that provides resources, such as school supplies and clothing, to homeless and low-income children. With supporters across the United States, Cradles to Crayons works to fight children’s clothing insecurity directly in cities, such as Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York, and focuses on raising awareness about this urgent crisis nationally.
“I’m always reminded every time I work with Cradles to Crayons of just how lucky my babies are. To know there are so many kids out there without everyday basic items like shoes and diapers … It’s such a great organization to get out and help do your part; even just for an afternoon.”
– Karen Baldwin, Associate, Strategic Events and Planning Manager
Cradles to Crayons’ vision is that one day every child will have the essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn and valued.
