Wayne, PA – November 25, 2021 – After 20 months of remote work, classes, and events, runners and walkers from across the Greater Philadelphia region came together in person to participate in the fifth annual Wayne Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, presented by Philadelphia-based asset manager FS Investments. Nearly 200 FS Investments employees and members of the local community joined forces to support For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Philadelphia Financial Scholars, and Radnor Police’s K-9 Unit.
“These three organizations represent the best of our community, and we are thrilled to be back in person this year to show our support and our gratitude for the work they do,” said Mike Gerber, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at FS Investments and founding board chair at Philadelphia Financial Scholars.
The Turkey Trot was organized and led by the FS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of FS Investments. Other sponsors included McAdam Financial, Relay Network, The Gerber Family, Aqua Pennsylvania, Dakota, Campus Apartments, Concentus Wealth Advisors, Frank O’Sullivan Landscaping, and RBC Wealth Management’s Ivy Wealth Solutions Group. Restore Movement provided complimentary onsite massage and recovery services to participants.
Michael McAdam, President and CEO of McAdam Financial, commented, “My firm is proud to support this year’s event, and we hope the more than $20,000 raised will go a long way toward helping these organizations expand their positive impact and support more of our neighbors.”
Stephen Gillin, President of Relay Network, added, “My colleagues and I are happy to be part of the Turkey Trot. It’s a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday by spending time with friends and family, exercising and giving back to others.”
The event’s three partner charities provide a wide range of services to the Greater Philadelphia region.
For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation was inspired by the late Peter R. Bossow Jr. It provides support to adult cancer patients, their caregivers, and loved ones, offering a relaxing environment to take a break from their diagnoses. Marci Schankweiler, the founder of the organization and Pete’s widow, shared, “Just as Thanksgiving provides so many an opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate, the Turkey Trot celebrates Pete’s dream of cancer patients having the opportunity to regenerate their minds, bodies and spirits. We’re so grateful to FS Investments for their longstanding support.”
Philadelphia Financial Scholars partners with the University of Pennsylvania’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships to deliver a financial literacy program for high school students and their families in Philadelphia. “We believe access to financial and entrepreneurship education is critical to overcoming systemic economic barriers, and we’re thrilled this year’s event is supporting Philadelphia Financial Scholars and our work to promote financial empowerment,” said Kerry Woodward, Executive Director of Philadelphia Financial Scholars.
Finally, the Radnor Police Force K-9 Unit, which includes officers “Rocky,” “Onyx” and “Urrsi,” leads the bomb detection unit for the Radnor Police force. The K-9 Unit patrols the Main Line in customized Land Rover LR4s, each with a special cage for the canine team members. “Rocky, Onyx and Urrsi are valued members of our Department and our community,” said Chris Flanagan, Superintendent of the Radnor Police Department. “We appreciate today’s sponsors and community participants for helping us care for these special dogs.”
